SHAUN OF THE DEAD TRAILER ANALYSIS:
Shaun of the Dead is a comedy film that stars well known British actors Simon Pegg and Nick Frost. The film is based around Simon and Nick's characters, who are the protagonists, saving each other and their friends from a zombie apocalypse in England. The target audience of the film is mainly adults due to the film's violence and bad language, but also teenagers.
Mise en scene:
The costumes that are worn by the protagonists in the film are very naturalistic, which will make the audience empathise with the characters more. The use of having the film set in England, particularly in London is conventional for comedy films as they help make the film more naturalistic. The use of the protagonist's using props of shovels and cricket bats in the replacement of guns shows as well that it's more natural.
Sound:
One type of sound that is used in the trailer is diegetic sound. An example of this sound type is dialogue. This is used by the character's for the audience to show them how they are feeling. Another type of diegetic sound that is used in the film is the noise from the zombie antagonists. This shows to the audience the comedic sound of the zombies and how they act. One type of non diegetic that we can hear in the trailer is soundtrack, which is played in the background. This is used to set the mood of the film.
Camera:
One type of camera shot that is used in the trailer of the film is a long shot. This is used to show the zombies in the distance of the scene, as the protagonists look down the road. Another camera shot that is used in the trailer is a two shot of the protagonists of the film. This is effectively used as it shows the audience the relationship between the two characters. One type of camera angle that we can see in the trailer is a high angle shot, of the zombie looking down on the protagonists. This is effective angle to use as it makes the protagonists look lower down in status than the zombies, creating a comedy effect.
Editing:
Simon Pegg's character is given prevalence in the trailer of the film for the audience to empathise with him. The transitions between the scenes in the trailer are of a fast pace, to highlight the fast pace tension and action in the film to the audience.
