Creativity

Creativity:

Inspiration of our ideas: One of the inspirations for our film was watching some opening sequences of successful horror films, such as The Woman in Black and The Conjuring. This inspired us as horror films are a popular and successful genre for teenage audiences. We also used this as an idea as many of the conventional characters in horror films are teenagers, which is helpful to us as we are of that age.

How did we collaborate our ideas? To help us choose what ideas that we were going to use in our opening sequence, we compromised with each other on our decisions. For example Shannon and I had the idea of filming at Shannon's house, due to her house being more suited to a horror film location, rather than moving to a location which wasn't as much of a conventional horror film location. To help us decide on final decisions, we would meet up as a group and discuss the ideas. This was effective, as we were able to share and listen to each other's viewpoints.

How did we change things? One thing that we decided to change from our film was how we wanted are antagonist to be played. We had an original idea to make them already be inside the house, as well being portrayed in more of a sinister way compared to being creepy. However, we felt it would compliment our story line more if they were shown as being socially awkward, as it would be more relatable to the target audience. We also changed the costumes of some of the characters in our story line. For example, we originally had all of the protagonists in smarter costumes. However we felt it would look more naturalistic to have them in casual clothing. On top of this, we made the antagonist's costume darker in colour, as its conventional for antagonists to have dark costumes in horror films.

How did we use Adobe Premier Elements? Adobe Premier Elements is an editing software that we used to add effects and bring together our footage. One feature that we used for our opening sequence were different transitions, for example fades. This was effective as it linked the scenes together in a more professional way,  as well as making it easier for the audience to watch and understand. Another feature that we decided to use was adding titles over scenes. This addressed some of the key information to the audience, such as the cast and production company of the film. The other feature that we used over our opening sequence was zoom. This was used to help the audience identify with the antagonist of the film, as the zoomed in scene focuses on her. An additional feature that we could use in the future to improve our trailer could be changing the time of a scene, either by speeding it up or slowing it down. This is effective as it can show to the audience the pace of the scene.

What stylistic techniques were used? One stylistic technique that we used in our opening sequence was using a dolly shot in the beginning of the scene, to follow two of the protagonists down a pathway. We chose to use this technique as it gave it a natural effect. To improve in the future, we could use more unnatural effects, to create a different atmosphere for our audience.
